C’est à l’âge de 16 ans qu’Alexandre découvre le plaisir de la photographie. À l’époque, il participe à une tournée européenne comme saxophoniste; il cherche sa voix à travers la musique, mais c’est la photographie qui le happe de plein fouet.
Autodidacte, il collectionne les appareils et les livres. Il est fasciné par la technique, la lumière, la composition. Il veut tout comprendre, tout découvrir. Il va toujours plus loin, plonge au cœur de sa créativité et découvre un art qui ne cesse de l’émerveiller.
En 2007, il se lance dans le monde professionnel. Toujours amoureux de la musique, il photographie des artistes pendant les FrancoFolies à titre de pigiste pour Flashquébec.info et HNR Média. Il y fait la rencontre d’un des photographes officiel de Spectra qui le prend sous son aile et en fait son assistant. À ses côtés, il photographie plus d’une centaine de spectacles et d’artistes de renommée internationale, tant aux FrancoFolies qu’au Festival de Jazz de Montréal.
En parallèle, Alexandre poursuit sa quête et explore le monde des cowboys pendant le festival western de St-Tite. Ses photos, présentées dans le cadre de l’exposition « La face cachée des cowboys », pénètrent l’âme du rodéo et de ses artisans.
Au-delà de la technique, il y a les rencontres, il y a les gens. Et ce sont eux qui passionnent Alexandre Bédard. Qu’ils soient artistes, cowboys, enfants ou mères de familles, le photographe veut faire sortir le meilleur de chacun d’eux.
« Une photo, c’est la pérennité, c’est le souvenir. C’est en voyant une photo de mes grands-parents à 20 ans que j’ai réalisé qu’ils avaient existé avant d’être les vieillards que j’ai toujours connus. La photo, c’est un moment de vie qu’on n’oubliera jamais. »

It is at the age of 16 that Alexandre discovered the art of photography. At the time, he was part of a European tour as a saxophonist; he pursued happiness through music but it is through photography that he found his true passion.
Self-taught, he collects cameras and books. He is fascinated by technique, light and composition. He wants to understand it all, to discover the art. He always wants to go further, he dives into the heart of his creativity and discovers an art that never cesses to impress him.
In 2007, he enters the professional world. Still in love with music, he was hired as a freelancer by Flashquébec.info and HNR Média to photograph artists during the FrancoFolies.
This is where he met with Spectra’s official photographer, this latter took him under his wing and made him his assistant. At his side, he photographed over a hundred shows and international artists during the FrancoFolies and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
In parallel, Alexandre follows his quest and explores the world of cowboys during the Western Festival of St-Tite. Presented during the exposition « The hidden face of cowboys », his photos penetrate the soul of the rodeo and of its craftsmen.
Beyond technique, there are meetings and there are people and this is what fascinates Alexandre Bédard. Whether they are artists, cowboys, children or mothers, the photograph in him wants to bring out the best in each of them.
“A picture is everlasting, it is a memory. It is when I saw a picture of my grand parents at the age of 20 years old that I realized that they existed prior to being old. A picture is a moment in life that we will never forget.”
